The comparison
Contabo VPS vs cheap shared hosting
Shared hosting is a product. A VPS is a computer. This lander recommends Contabo when you can name a job the computer must do. Otherwise stay on shared — sister Web Host exists for that.

| Topic | Contabo VPS (this site’s default) | Cheap shared hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Best when | A real app, several sites, SSH, or a mail stack you will operate. | A first brochure, WordPress someone barely maintains, or “just put the page up.” |
| Who is the sysadmin | You (or the developer you pay). Contabo runs the hypervisor, not your guest OS. | The host, within the limits of a shared plan. |
| Isolation | Your VM. Neighbors cannot read your files. They can still share a noisy host machine. | Shared users, shared IP reputation, shared process limits. |
| Possible, not automatic. Authentication, PTR, and policy are yours. Easy to get wrong. | Usually a mailbox product with limits. Reputation is the host’s until you spam. | |
| Panel | Contabo Customer Control Panel plus whatever you install (optional Plesk/cPanel at extra cost). | cPanel / hPanel included in the product you bought. |
| Failure mode | You misconfigure SSH, disk fills, or an update bricks the app — at 11 p.m. | Noisy neighbor, inode limits, or a host policy. Less root. Less rope. |
| Price pattern | Public VPS grid on Contabo. Confirm term discounts versus month-to-month. No number here. | Intro shared prices versus renewals — see sister Web Host. Still usually simpler. |
Shared is not “less professional”
A plumber’s one-page site on shared hosting with HTTPS and a working phone number is a professional result. A plumber’s neglected VPS with expired TLS and an open port 22 is not. Status is not the hypervisor. Status is whether a customer can reach you. If you are here because a YouTube video said VPS is what real businesses buy, go back to Web Host. If you are here because a developer named RAM, disk, and a process that shared CPU limits killed, stay.
What we will not score
No 9.4. No homemade uptime SLA. No “fastest NVMe” graph. Verify live prices, regions, and fair-use terms on Contabo. Mentions of Hostinger and other shared hosts are editorial. The outbound hop is /go/contabo.
